In my work as a parent coach, I’ve seen a very common mistake that even really insightful parents are making. It’s quick to fix and it makes all the difference.

It’s about how you respond when your child complains or is upset about something.

I made you a quick video about it because it’s easier to understand when you see it. It’s just 2 minutes long.

When our kids are distressed in some way, it’s natural for us to want to fix it for them. We want to take away their pain, give them a different perspective, and soothe our own discomfort (from seeing their pain).

But the first step is empathy. THEN, we can help them problem-solve, ask questions, and share our perspective.

Empathy first.
Problem solve second.

After reading the blog today, do you want more parenting support from me and meet similar parents?

You and I can personally talk in there if you’re struggling to figure out how to talk to your child.
